We last looked at Jeremiah 18, the story of the potter and the clay. God is the potter and has the right to shape the clay as he alone chooses. He is sovereign, and therefore in total control of our lives; where he sends us, what happens to us, and how he uses us. The metaphor of pottery continues in Jeremiah 19, where God tells Jeremiah to take a water jug before the priests and people of Jerusalem and warn them of the destruction that coming due to their disobedience. Then he was to break the water pot in their presence. The reaction to his warning was harsh, and led to a night of suffering, his dark night of the soul.
