Last week we looked at the famed story of Isaac stealing the blessing from his brother Esau. The point of that story, as I shared it, was this: Don’t attempt to get the right things in the wrong ways. That is what Isaac did, deceiving his blind father by impersonating his older brother and stealing the father’s blessing. At the end of that story, Isaac flees for his life, uncertain of when or if he would ever return. The chapter ends with this detail, bridging to our section of Genesis today: Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I loathe my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?” Genesis 27:46 (ESV)
