Last week we saw Paul’s transformation when he met Christ and placed his faith in him. Having reviewed his impressive religious credentials, Paul called them “rubbish” compared to the surpassing value of knowing Jesus personally. Some in Philippi might have mistakenly assumed that Paul had now reached spiritual perfection, so Paul next explains the importance of his ongoing growth in his walk with God. These instructions make clear that we all need to press on to maturity.
